Dreaming of Alice #7: "The Wretched Hatter trembled so, that he shook off both of his shoes."

Here is a new series of small works using chine colle technique to collage fragments of handprinted papers onto a heavier acid-free base sheet. The series is called 'Dreaming of Alice'

The focal point of each miniature collage is a fragment of illustration from an antique edition of 'Alice in Wonderland'. The rest of the collage is hand painted botanical illustrations. Illustration by John Tenniel was created in 1860.

The chine colle process is an old technique of collaging to an acid-free base sheet using archival paste and then  overprinting with an etching or relief plate. In this case the overprint is a textured sponge. This gives the negative space some suggestion of pattern without distracting from the hand colored botanical flowers and the antique paper fragment that illustrate the story.

The title of each print is taken from the original story book, Alice in Wonderland.  Each collage print is one of a kind and signed by the artist.
